FD-302, “Thermally Elevated Aerial Object,” 2026

An FBI interview transcript.

WASHINGTON, August 7 — A U.S. government special agent reported observing a thermally elevated aerial object in the western United States on the evening of 2026-08-06, according to an FBI Form FD-302 released today. The account, detailed in a document from the FBI’s PURSUE tranche, describes a sighting that mirrors a prior incident but with distinct differences in scale and trajectory.

“On or about 2026, at approximately 2100 hours, I was positioned in the same general observation area referenced in my prior statement,” the agent wrote. “While conducting observation in the area, I observed a thermally elevated aerial object in the same general western sector and along a similar heading as the object observed the previous night.” The agent emphasized that the object appeared roughly two ridge lines farther west than the earlier sighting, though terrain and distance prevented precise identification of its physical characteristics. Thermal imaging revealed the object as a hot aerial presence, moving southbound.

This direction aligned with the trajectory of the prior night’s observation, suggesting a possible pattern. The agent noted that the object’s size was estimated to be half that of a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter, which was also recorded in the same area during the operation.

The helicopter footage served as a reference point for scale, flight behavior, and size comparison, though the agent acknowledged this was an approximation based on visual and thermal cues. The agent’s statement makes no claims about the object’s origin, technology, or intent. The FBI document explicitly states it contains no recommendations or conclusions, functioning solely as a record of an interview.

This neutrality is critical: the bureau has not classified the sighting as a security threat, nor has it linked it to any known anomalous phenomena. The form’s purpose is investigative, not analytical, and its contents are restricted to the agency that received it—a detail underscoring the sensitivity of the information.

What this incident signals remains unclear. The recurring western sightings, the thermal anomalies, and the comparative size to military aircraft raise questions about potential patterns or anomalies in airspace activity. However, without further data, these observations are speculative.

The FBI has not released additional details, and the agent’s role in the broader context of U.S. intelligence operations is not specified in the document. The lack of conclusions from the bureau itself means the incident remains an open file, one that could gain significance if corroborated or expanded upon in future reports.
