FBI Document Reveals Redacted UAP Image Submitted to AARO

Grainy monochrome military image with crosshair showing two small dark circles against a pale sky.

A document labeled “FBI Photo B17,” made public on May 8, 2026, by the U.S. Department of War as part of the PURSUE archive, details a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon (UAP) submitted to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) in late 2025. The submission included a single still image captured by a U.S. military system, which was redacted prior to its transfer to AARO. The image, described as monochrome and grainy, features a simplified central crosshair.

Near the middle of the frame, two small, dark, circular objects are visible. According to the FBI document, the location of the incident is listed only as the Western United States.

The document also notes that the date shown in the image is inaccurate because the system’s date and time had not been set. The operator who captured the image reported being unable to positively identify the UAP. No accompanying mission report was provided with the submission. The FBI document explicitly states that its narrative description of the image is provided for informational purposes only.

It cautions readers against interpreting any part of that description as an analytical judgment, investigative conclusion, or factual determination regarding the event’s validity, nature, or significance.

Part of Broader UAP Transparency Effort

The release of “FBI Photo B17” is part of a larger government initiative to declassify and release records related to UAPs, commonly known as UFOs. According to a Wikipedia summary of the United States UFO files, this collection of declassified records began being released by the administration of Donald Trump on May 8, 2026. The releases are expected to continue as repeated, ongoing, and expanding disclosures of UFO materials, with the stated goal of providing greater transparency about UAP sightings and incidents.

The fact that the image was redacted before being sent to AARO suggests that sensitive or classified information may be associated with the incident. The lack of detail in the document, including the absence of a mission report, leaves numerous questions about the context and significance of the sighting unanswered.

Ongoing Releases Expected to Provide More Clarity

Despite the release of “FBI Photo B17,” many details about the incident remain unknown. The limited information and missing mission report underscore the gaps in the public record.

Observers are advised to watch for future releases of UAP-related documents, which may offer more clarity about this and similar incidents. The U.S. government’s declassification effort is an ongoing process, and future disclosures could shed additional light on the nature and significance of UAP sightings. As more information becomes available, the public may gain a fuller understanding of the types of incidents being reported and analyzed.

For now, “FBI Photo B17” provides a limited but notable example of the records being collected and released as part of this transparency initiative.
