Pentagon Releases 2020 UAP Video from Unidentified Platform

The Department of War has declassified a video recording from October 2020 depicting an unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP) observed by a platform using the callsign “Callsign.” The release, designated PR80, is part of ongoing transparency efforts under the PURSUE policy framework, which mandates the controlled release of UAP-related material to the public while protecting sensitive sources and methods. The video, captured on October 20, 2020, shows a sensor track of an object exhibiting flight characteristics not immediately attributable to known aircraft.

According to the file metadata, the platform was operating in an undisclosed location when the sensor detected the UAP. The recording includes telemetry data and infrared imagery, though the exact sensor type has not been specified.

The object appears to move without visible propulsion or aerodynamic control surfaces. The Department of War has not identified the platform or the specific unit involved. The video was reviewed by the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which determined that the footage does not contain classified information beyond the platform’s operational details.

AARO, established under the Office of the Secretary of Defense, is responsible for analyzing UAP reports across all domains. The release follows the PURSUE policy, which was implemented to standardize the declassification and public release of UAP-related material.

The policy requires that any release be accompanied by a statement from the relevant agency confirming that the material does not compromise national security. In this case, the Department of War has confirmed that the video meets those criteria. The report does not say whether the UAP was identified or resolved.

The object’s behavior, as captured by the sensor, remains unexplained. The video is one of several releases from 2020 that AARO has reviewed as part of its historical analysis of UAP incidents. AARO continues to catalog and assess such events to determine if they pose any flight safety or national security concerns.

Moving forward, AARO may request additional data from the Department of War, including sensor logs and operator reports, to further analyze the incident. The office can also interview personnel who were involved in the observation.

No timeline for further releases has been announced, but the PURSUE policy establishes a framework for periodic declassification of historical UAP material.
