Pentagon Releases 2020 UAP Video from Department of War

Pentagon Declassifies 2020 UAP Footage Under New Reporting Policy

The Department of War has made public a video recorded on October 18, 2020, that captures an unidentified aerial phenomenon observed by a military aircraft operating in an undisclosed location. The recording, labeled PR81, falls under the Pentagon’s recently instituted PURSUE policy framework, which aims to standardize the reporting and declassification of such encounters. The All‑domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) released the footage as part of its ongoing transparency initiative.

The video was taken by an aircraft using the callsign “Callsign.” It shows a small, metallic‑appearing object moving at considerable speed. According to the embedded metadata, the sensor was operating in infrared mode and tracked the object for roughly forty‑five seconds. During that interval the object exhibits rapid acceleration and performs maneuvers that do not match the flight characteristics of known aircraft or typical atmospheric phenomena.

The release follows the Department of War’s adoption of the PURSUE policy, which establishes uniform procedures for documenting and clearing UAP sightings for public dissemination. AARO, which operates under the Office of the Secretary of Defense, has been assigned the responsibility of examining these incidents to determine their origins and assess any potential implications for national security.

The accompanying report does not disclose the precise geographic location or altitude of the encounter. It does note, however, that the platform was flying within controlled airspace while conducting a routine training mission at the time of the sighting. In addition to the visual record, the sensor data package includes telemetry information that AARO analysts are presently reviewing.

The file name associated with the footage indicates the incident occurred in 2020, although additional specifics remain classified. This marks the third UAP video that the Pentagon has disclosed in recent months, following earlier releases dating back to 2022 and 2023.

AARO officials stress that making the video available does not constitute an affirmation that the objects are extraterrestrial in origin. Instead, they maintain that the phenomena remain unidentified after preliminary analysis. Looking ahead, the office intends to seek supplementary data from the Department of War, such as radar logs and pilot debriefings, and may also conduct interviews with the aircrew to obtain further context.
