Pentagon Releases 2017 Syria UAP Video Showing Instant Acceleration

The Department of War has made public a video captured in Syrian airspace in 2017 that depicts an unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP) performing an instantaneous acceleration maneuver. The clip, identified as PR51, is being released under the Pentagon’s newly adopted PURSUE framework – an initiative designed to share UAP‑related material that does not compromise national security.

According to the metadata accompanying the file, the recording was taken by a U.S. military sensor platform operating over Syria during 2017. While the exact nature of the sensor is not disclosed, analysts who reviewed the footage note that the object’s motion defies conventional aerodynamic explanations. The video shows a small, disc‑shaped entity moving at high speed before abruptly changing its velocity, disappearing from view within a few seconds.

The filename – dow-uap-pr051-syrian-uap-instant-acceleration – is the only technical label provided. No additional details about the sensor type, radar tracking, or any attempted communications with the object have been released.

The Department of War has not offered an identification for the phenomenon, nor has it suggested a natural or man‑made cause for the observed behavior. This disclosure is part of a broader effort by the All‑domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), an entity created in 2022 under the Office of the Secretary of Defense to centralize UAP investigations. AARO’s mandate includes reviewing historic incidents, compiling data, and briefing congressional committees on UAP matters.

The agency has been tasked with regularly updating lawmakers as more information becomes available. PURSUE – which stands for Proactive and Responsible UAP Engagement – obliges the Department to declassify UAP material that poses no risk to sources, methods, or ongoing operations.

PR51 is among the first releases executed under this policy, signaling a shift toward greater transparency while still safeguarding sensitive intelligence. In the accompanying report, officials highlight that the acceleration profile captured in the video does not match any known aircraft or documented natural phenomenon. The brief clip, lasting only a few seconds, shows the object accelerating instantaneously and then vanishing from the sensor’s field of view. Congressional interest in UAPs has intensified in recent years, prompting legislative inquiries and hearings.

The AARO’s ongoing work includes plans to request further data from the original sensor platform and to interview the operators who recorded the event. Cross‑referencing this incident with other reports from the same region and timeframe is also on the agency’s agenda.

As additional footage and sensor records are declassified, the public and policymakers alike may obtain a clearer picture of the characteristics and origins of such unexplained aerial occurrences. The release of the Syrian 2017 video marks a notable step in that direction, providing a concrete example of the kind of anomalous behavior that continues to challenge conventional aerospace understanding.
