CIA UAP Zimbabwe 2008

WASHINGTON — A recently declassified Central Intelligence Agency memorandum, made public on June 12, outlines a 2008 situation in which United States intelligence agencies evaluated a high-alert status linked to perceived hostile foreign movements near Harare, Zimbabwe, involving an unidentified anomalous phenomenon. The document, formally designated CIA-UAP-017 and titled “Placement on High Alert Due to Perceived Aggressive Foreign Posturing,” illustrates how reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena can become interwoven with national security evaluations conducted outside the United States.

This memo represents one component of the third batch of records released under the Department of War’s PURSUE disclosure initiative, which also encompasses materials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of War. The records have been posted publicly at war.gov/UFO as part of a rolling declassification process ordered by former President Donald Trump and coordinated with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Officials have stated that the release is intended to promote transparency, emphasizing that many of these reports remain without definitive conclusions.

They have further clarified that an unresolved status does not automatically suggest an extraterrestrial origin. No confirmed evidence of alien spacecraft or beings has been presented within this release.

The case is being shared solely for the purpose of openness, and officials have made clear that the absence of a resolution does not point toward any specific explanation. A notable element of this disclosure is the manner in which UAP reports intersect with national security assessments, particularly in international settings. The CIA memo offers insight into how United States intelligence agencies evaluate and respond to such phenomena.

As the declassification process continues, additional information is expected to become available. The Department of War’s PURSUE disclosure is an ongoing effort, with further documents and records anticipated for release in the future.

The publication of this memo and other materials represents a step toward greater transparency, and observers will be monitoring what additional information emerges in the coming days and weeks. With the CIA and other agencies participating in the declassification process, attention will focus on how this information is presented and what it may reveal about UAP reports and national security evaluations. Moving forward, the key consideration will be how the government continues to manage the release of this information and what other documents may be declassified in the future.

As the situation develops, staying informed and watching for any new developments or releases from the Department of War and other agencies involved in the PURSUE disclosure will remain important.
