Pentagon Reveals 2024 UAP Report Identified as Migratory Birds

Migratory Birds

The Department of War has made public a declassified report dating from 2024 that describes an unidentified anomalous phenomenon observed over an unspecified location in Africa. The document was released under the PURSUE policy framework, which was instituted in 2023 to facilitate the disclosure of resolved UAP cases and to lessen the stigma associated with reporting such incidents. According to the report, multiple sensors detected objects displaying flight patterns that were initially considered unusual.

The data collected included radar tracks and infrared imagery, but the specific platform that gathered the information was not identified in the material. Because the objects lacked transponder signals and exhibited erratic movement, they were first logged as unidentified.

The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), which operates under the Office of the Secretary of Defense, conducted the review. After examining the sensor returns, AARO analysts determined that the objects were consistent with migratory birds. Their conclusion was reached by comparing the observed speed and altitude with established bird migration patterns and by cross‑referencing the information with ornithological databases and contemporaneous weather conditions.

The filename attached to the released material—pr-002-resolved-migratory-birds-africa-2024—indicates that this is the second case in a series of resolved UAP incidents that have been made public. The report does not specify whether the objects presented any threat to military operations, nor does it detail any potential risk to personnel or equipment.

Observations of the objects lasted several minutes before they moved beyond the range of the sensing systems. Throughout the tracking period, the recorded parameters remained within the bounds expected for avian migration, supporting the analysts’ assessment. This disclosure forms part of the Department of War’s broader initiative to increase transparency surrounding UAP encounters.

Under the PURSUE framework, resolved cases are required to be declassified in order to encourage more open reporting and to build public confidence in the investigative process. AARO maintains responsibility for reviewing both historical and current UAP reports across all operational domains.

Looking ahead, the office may seek additional data from the sensor crews involved or conduct interviews with personnel who witnessed the event in order to further refine its analysis. While the agency stresses that most UAP sightings ultimately have ordinary explanations, it affirms its commitment to investigating any instances that resist immediate identification.
